Proper Dance Attire
What a dancer wears to class can make a huge difference in how much they benefit from their class. Uniformity in dancewear allows the teachers to assess how well the students are implementing the technique being taught, problems with body alignment which will aid in injury prevention and other important aspects of dance training. Proper Attire is explained in the classes offered section. In addition, students should wear their hair secured and styled away from the face. A dancer can focus better without the distraction of hair in their eyes.
Attendance
Dance is a team activity. It is expected that when you register for a class, you will perform with your group at all rehearsals, competitions and recitals with the exception of unexpected absence due to illness or injury. Attendance at performances is so important because it is very difficult for dancers to perform their choreography when a student is missing. Choreography often has specific patterns, partner work and many times props. Each child in our routines play an important role, we do not have extras to fill in.
Frequent, repetitive class work is essential to muscle development and memory. Dance classes are a cumulative learning environment where each class builds on the previous one. It can be very frustrating to both those that miss class and also to those who have regular attendance.
After 5 missed classes in the same discipline, the dancer may be asked to leave the class, your registration fees will not be refunded. After 3 missed classes, the instructor has the right to take the dancer out of parts of the choreography.
Code of Conduct
MDC Dancers are to treat their instructors, fellow dancers, class helpers and parents with respect. Disrespectful and negative behaviour will not be tolerated. Parents and/or caregivers/guardians are expected to present a positive, respectful and rational attitude toward our dancers and teachers at the studio, during rehearsals, recitals and performances, at festivals and/or competitions and in the public. We strive to provide a positive atmosphere for the children to learn and create and are open to discuss any concerns that are brought to us.
We reserve the right to dismiss or refuse class to anyone who does not comply with MDC policies.
